Every engineering career begins with a first opportunity. For Engr. Muhammad Akram Sadiq, that opportunity came in 1991 as a Paid Intern at the Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC) Ammonia-Urea Complex in Goth Machi, Pakistan. Working within one of the country’s largest continuous-process industrial facilities, he gained his first practical exposure to heavy electrical equipment, process control systems, instrumentation, and industrial maintenance practices. This experience laid the foundation for a professional journey built on technical excellence, discipline, and continuous learning.
After graduating from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, he joined Siemens Pakistan Engineering Company as an Electrical Maintenance Engineer in the Field Services Department. Supporting industrial customers across Pakistan, he worked with power transformers, medium- and low-voltage switchgear, electric motors, motor control centres (MCCs), protection and control systems, high-speed transfer switching systems, and power factor correction equipment. This field-based assignment strengthened his practical engineering skills while providing valuable experience in diagnosing, maintaining, and commissioning critical electrical systems in operational industrial environments.
In 1993, he joined the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), where he spent the next fourteen years building a strong technical and operational foundation in the power generation sector. Beginning with WAPDA’s Professional Development Training Programme, he progressed through increasingly responsible roles including Project Engineer (Instrumentation & Controls), Instrumentation & Controls Maintenance Engineer, Shift Charge Engineer (Operation), and Team Lead – Instrumentation & Controls Maintenance at the Muzaffargarh Thermal Power Plant. During this period, he gained comprehensive experience covering the complete lifecycle of large power generation assets—from construction, testing, commissioning, commercial operation, preventive maintenance, and plant overhauls to reliability improvement, system modernization, and long-term asset management.
In 2007, he commenced the first chapter of his professional career in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Over the following fourteen years, he served on major power generation projects through Saudi Consulting Services (SAUDCONSULT) and Gulf Power International (GPI), representing project owners as Consultant and Owner’s Engineer. His responsibilities included engineering review, construction supervision, testing and commissioning, technical governance, design coordination, technical bid evaluations, operational support, quality assurance, and multidisciplinary EPC project coordination. These assignments significantly broadened his technical expertise while strengthening his capabilities in engineering leadership, project delivery, and owner representation.
During the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, he temporarily returned to Pakistan and expanded his professional activities beyond traditional engineering practice. As a Freelance Management Consultant, he provided organizational and administrative consultancy services to Minhaj University Lahore while also serving as a Professional Trainer with an energy training centre, delivering Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes for engineers in Pakistan’s power sector. This period further strengthened his commitment to professional development, knowledge sharing, and engineering education.
In 2022, he returned to Saudi Arabia and joined Energy Resources Development Company (TAACA), providing specialist technical support and Owner’s Engineer services to the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) at Tehama Power Plant. His work focused on technical advisory services, engineering studies, operational support, system improvements, multidisciplinary coordination, and the successful execution of capital improvement projects.
Since 2026, he has been serving with Intelligent System General Contracting Company (ISGCC) as Senior Electrical Engineer / Projects Manager, supporting the Farasan 132 kV GIS Substation & STATCOM Project for the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC). Working within a specialized engineering subcontractor, he is responsible for construction support, testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, energization activities, technical submittals, inspections, quality coordination, and multidisciplinary engineering interfaces. This assignment complements his earlier experience representing project owners and engineering consultants by providing valuable insight into project execution from the contractor’s perspective.
Across more than 30 years of professional practice, Engr. Muhammad Akram Sadiq has contributed to engineering, commissioning, operation, maintenance, consultancy, project management, and technical leadership on power plants and substations representing a combined installed generation capacity of 7,192 MW. His career reflects a balanced combination of technical depth, practical field experience, engineering governance, and project leadership developed across both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Today, alongside his engineering responsibilities, he actively embraces modern digital technologies—including Artificial Intelligence (AI)—to enhance engineering research, technical writing, project documentation, knowledge management, website development, and professional publications. Through engrmasadiq.com, he continues to share engineering knowledge, support professional development, and contribute to the advancement of the engineering profession by combining decades of practical experience with the opportunities offered by modern digital technologies.
